How to print your Ancestry family tree

To print your Ancestry tree as pedigree charts, family group sheets, or a big wall chart, download it into RootsMagic and print from there. The free edition, RootsMagic Essentials, prints the everyday charts; the full version adds PDFs and wall charts as large as you need.

Step by step

  1. Download your tree into RootsMagic

    Install RootsMagic Essentials free and download your Ancestry tree into a new RootsMagic file. How to download your Ancestry tree.

  2. Choose a chart or report

    Select the Publish page, then All reports and charts, and choose what to print from the list, such as Pedigree Chart or Family Group Sheet.

  3. Pick the person and options

    The report window opens with its settings on the left. Choose who the chart starts with and how it looks, then click Generate Report. A pedigree chart shows four, five, or six generations per page, and cascading charts continue the tree onto more pages.

  4. Preview and print

    The right side shows each page as it will print, with a thumbnail of every page. Click Print to send it to your printer. With the full version, Save makes a PDF instead.
